Episode 162: The Replacements - Green Lantern (Pt. 2; John Stewart)

Continuing the Green Lantern “Replacements” from last episode, we move on to the one that actually replaced Hal first, despite appearing after Guy Gardner.  The Lantern so well loved, he was actually chosen over Hal for the Justice League cartoon in the DCAU, it’s John Stewart!

This is one of many cases where the cover image does not at all happen in the story.

Believe it or not…it gets worse.

Can you tell this costume was created in the 1990s?

After the show aired, the comics adapted John to fit this version even more.

Yes we can.

Episode 138: The Replacements - The Flash

More so than most episodes, you’ll want to be sure you’re familiar with all the DC Universe eras in order to fully understand what I’m talking about, so here’s my first episode where I go through them in detail, as a YouTube video.

The original…but not the one who’s replaced.

It happens a lot…

Wally in his various outfits, while Barry watches over.

The Flash of China, and now the multiversal Flash!

You can see why they refer to this version as “Dark Flash.”

John! You forgot the rule: Flashes before lasses!

Bart looks more and more like his grandpa every day.

Episode 98: The Replacements - Spider-Man

Continuing our occasional look into the characters that have taken on the identity of an already established hero, this installment covers those who have become the hero that was literally the face of Marvel for many years, Spider-Man, including one of his arch-nemeses.  Take a listen to get all the details.

Episode 68: The Replacements - Batman

Last time we did a “Replacements” episode, we looked at the various Robins.  This time, we dive deep in on his mentor, and look at all the people who have been the official Batman in the regular DCU.  There’s a little crossover between the two, so if you haven’t listened to Episode 58, I recommend doing so first.

Episode 58: The Replacements - Robin

In this recurring feature, we look at the various heroes that have replaced the original, and what happens to them after their tenure is over.  Maybe it’s because he’s a sidekick and not (usually) a solo hero, but Robin is one of the few cases where the original never actually came back.  Instead, we’ve had a parade of Robins, which we’ll discuss in this episode.

Some of you Dark Knight Returns fans may ask where Carrie Kelly is. However, with these “Replacements” episodes, I only stick to what is in mainstream continuity, and Carrie has never been Robin in the main DC Universe, which is why she is not included, and Stephanie gets the “first female Robin” title.

Episode 46: Two Questions from the Ladies of the “OHotMU or Not?” Podcast

Being non-comic readers (for the most part), but having to deal with things in the comic book world, I was curious to find out if the ladies from the OHotMU or Not podcast had questions they needed answered about comics.  And they delivered!  Two questions coming this week (one from Elyse and one from Nathalie), and two more next episode! First I “Explain Comics” to the best of my ability, then we go into why heroes get replaced, and how the Direct Market figures into that equation.

I’m betting if you took a guess as to which end up as “Hots” and which are “Nots" according to the OHotMU or Not podcast, you’d only get about half right.

Episode 44: The Replacements - Hulk

Another in the recurring feature, where we look at other characters who have taken on the superheroic identity from another, both how that occurred and what happened to them after the original comes back.  The Smashing character known as The Hulk is under the spotlight this time.

Even after a noise reduction pass I can hear a little noise in the background on this recording. I hope it doesn’t bother you too much. Episode 33: The Replacements - Iron Man

Now that Tony’s gone from the MCU, let’s look at some of his possible replacements, specifically those who have already done so in the comics.  It’s the third installment of “The Replacements,” which previously covered those who have replaced Captain America and Superman.  This time, we look at the history of those who have taken up the Armored Avenger’s mantle.

Episode 15: The Replacements - Superman

The Eradicator.  Cyborg Superman.  Steel.  Superboy.  Each claimed to be Superman's successor, but none were the true heir.  Where did they come from, and what happened to them after Superman's return?

Episode 7: The Replacements - Captain America

Thanks to the question from listener Justin B. (No, it's not Bieber), this is the first in a recurring feature we'll come back to every now and then, each time focusing on a different heroic identity.  We'll look at the people who have taken the place of the original, and what happened to them once the primogenitor returns.
