Episode 5 (Remastered): Legacy Games and Crossed Arms

A re-mastered version of Episode 5 with AI enhanced audio, where discuss one of my favorite types of games, Legacy games.  Then we go on a brief comparison of various “crossed arm” gestures seen in recent comic book films of the time.

The originator (although I’d love to see the “Clue: Legacy” that Rob originally came up with.

Having played more Legacy games since this episode’s release, this one is on the weaker side, game-wise, although it tells an interesting story.

Season 1 is very similar to the original Pandemic in many ways…

…while Season 2 starts off very differently.

Still fun to play after the campaign is over.

Impossible to play after the campaign is over, but a fun, creepy campaign.

At this point, it’s likely we won’t see her crossing her arms like this again…

…and sadly, we know we won’t be seeing him do so (R.I.P.)…

but this could still happen again in Deadpool 3!

Over 23 years now, and counting (again, when Deadpool 3 releases…).

Episode 110: Some Card Game Mechanics

Following up on last episode’s discussion of board game mechanics, we move into some game mechanics and other terms that are specific to games with cards.  We define some of the more common terms and mechanics, using examples from some of the more popular card games.

The most commonly known deck, but nowhere near the only one.

Just a few of the many, many, many Magic cards that have been created.

I choose you! (That’s about all I know about Pokemon)

With an H.P. Lovecraft themed deck, I’m not sure “Living Card Game” was the best name, but it is what it is.

A few cards from one procedurally generated Keyforge deck.

All this makes sense as soon as you play. (The catchphrase of many a game teacher.)

Comics and card games combined! Cool!

Be more careful, Speedball!

Episode 109: Some Board Game Mechanics

Resource Management, Worker Placement, Area Control. You may have heard some of these terms and others as people discuss their favorite board games. But what do they mean? Using some of the most popular games around, we discuss these terms and others to help you learn more about how many board games are played.

Just a few of the many, many options out there. Knowing how each game is played will help you decide which one you want to play next.

Episode 62: Board Game Rules - How Strict Should They Be?

Board games are a more popular pastime than ever, but different people have grown up with their own house rules, and may want to go back and “redo” their turn from time to time.  A listener asks how important it is to follow the exact rules and stick to player decisions, and Kurt (with decades of board game playing under his belt) gives his opinion on the subject.

The example game we use for much of the discussion. If you’re not familiar, you need to stay in more.

What if you want to kill some monsters, but don’t want to get bogged down in all that pesky role-playing?  Well, these games, past and present, may just be what you’re looking for.  Kurt covers the highlights of the history of dungeon crawler board games this episode.
